Positioning

Lyft autonomy position rests on an asset Uber does not emphasise in the same way: Flexdrive, its fleet management subsidiary, which offers rentals to rideshare drivers in 24 US locations and provides end-to-end vehicle maintenance, infrastructure, charging and depot operations. That is what Waymo bought into on 2025-09-17, partnering with Lyft to launch in Nashville in 2026 with Flexdrive running the fleet and Lyft building a dedicated AV facility; riders will hail first through the Waymo app and later through Lyft under a dynamic marketplace integration. Beyond Waymo, Lyft launched a commercial pilot with May Mobility in Atlanta in September 2025, plans Mobileye-powered robotaxis in Dallas as soon as 2026 with Marubeni owning and financing the vehicles, and has deals with Benteler Group and with Baidu for Europe. The history is a drag on the momentum score: Lyft sold its in-house Level 5 unit to the Toyota Woven Planet in April 2021, Motional paused the Las Vegas partnership in 2024, and the 2022 Argo AI shutdown cost Lyft a USD 135.7 million hit. Technology scores 2 for the same reason as Uber: no stack. Position scores 3 rather than 5 because Lyft is a credible but clearly second aggregator.
