Positioning

ECARX builds the automotive computing layer, from system-on-chip heritage through central computing platforms to software and, on its roadmap, its own operating system. The portfolio spans the Antora family for intelligent cockpit, Qualcomm-based platforms across performance tiers, Skyland and NVIDIA-based platforms for intelligent driving, and Cloudpeak as the common software foundation. Around 12 million vehicles globally carry ECARX technology, supported by partnerships with 18 automakers and 28 brands, and the company delivered 550,000 units in Q2 2026 alone. The financial turn is the story: Q4 2025 revenue was a record USD 305 million with a second consecutive quarter of GAAP profitability, Q2 2026 revenue rose 45 percent to USD 225.2 million with gross margin nearly doubling from 10.8 to 19.8 percent, net loss narrowing to USD 12.0 million and a fourth consecutive quarter of positive adjusted EBITDA, against full-year 2026 guidance of USD 1.0 to 1.1 billion. Against that, Q1 2026 revenue fell 22 percent to USD 131.5 million, so the trajectory is not clean. ECARX is a Geely-anchored but increasingly external platform supplier moving into robotics-adjacent AI services; it sold its 13.5 percent residual Zenseact stake back to Volvo Cars on 2022-12-31.

Positioning

Waabi is the clearest AV2.0 bet in this batch. Its Physical AI Platform pairs a verifiable end-to-end AI model with an advanced neural simulator so a single model powers both autonomous trucks and robotaxis, the basis of its capital-efficiency argument. Raquel Urtasun founded it in 2021 after serving as chief scientist at Uber ATG, the unit Uber sold to Aurora in 2020, so the January 2026 Uber deal is a reunion. That deal is the defining event: a USD 750 million Series C co-led by Khosla Ventures and G2 Venture Partners, plus roughly USD 250 million in milestone-based capital from Uber to deploy 25,000 or more Waabi Driver-powered robotaxis exclusively on the Uber platform, for total available capital of USD 1 billion and the largest tech fundraise in Canadian history. On trucks, Waabi partners with Volvo Autonomous Solutions, which builds the VNL Autonomous at its Virginia facility with Waabi sensors, compute and driver. The weakness is deployment: commercial pilots in Texas still carry safety drivers, the first closed-course driverless run came in October 2025, and the planned end-2025 driverless public-highway launch slipped by several quarters, attributed to validating the trucks rather than the driver.
