Alfa Laval is the heat exchanger inside other people's cooling products, and 2026 is the year it stopped being only that. Founded 1883, it runs more than 30 manufacturing sites with 22,000 employees and has worked in data centers for 20 years, initially supplying large gasketed plate heat exchangers for evaporative and free cooling, with brazed plate units in chillers, heat pumps and heat reuse. It entered the white space in 2022 with compact brazed plate heat exchangers for CDUs, its first project a US crypto mining single-phase immersion system, and has since followed the shift toward single-phase direct-to-chip. It supplies heat exchangers for CDUs at 2.3 to 2.5 MW, including the custom brazed plate unit at the core of Boyd's ROL2300 CDU. Two 2026 moves matter: in February a multi-year investment to double production capacity at Richmond, Virginia by mid-2028, a direct response to anticipated supply constraints; and on 2026-03-04 at Data Centre World London it launched FreeWaterLoop, an integrated external facility-loop cooling system combining pump engineering, heat exchangers and filtration, moving it from component supplier to system vendor.
